Involved with the International League Against Epilepsy and International Bureau for Epilepsyas member and participant, contributed to various commissions like Education commission, Developing Countries Commission, Neurosurgery Commission, Employment Commission, Psychological Approaches Commission and Driving and Epilepsy Commission – having contributed to meetings, worshopsand publications of these commissions used as recommendations, and protocols for the treatment of epilepsy worldwide. He was a member of the ILAE task force on Pediatric Epilepsy Surgery from 2004-2016 and has contributed chapters to the “Textbook of Pediatric Epilepsy Surgery”, John Libbey,2016.
Presented and published many original research papers at various National and International Epilepsy and Neurology Conferences with publications in prestigious international Journals such as “Epilepsia”,“ Neurology”, “Seizure”, “ Epilepsy &Behaviour”and “Neurology Asia”. He is a peer reviewer for some of these journals and for journal of ICNA(International child Neurology Association) for the past several years.
Lectured on “Yoga and Epilepsy” at International Epilepsy congress in Czech republic(1999)Argentina(2001)and Portugal (2003). Besides being an astute clinician and researcher having contributed to international levels of epilepsy research, he has a humanitarian approach to the subject and patients with epilepsy and their families, and has worked at grass root levels in Western Maharashtra – addressing teachers, rehabilitation workers, special educators, medial studentsdoctors and postgraduate students as well as laymen.
He has served as a member, ILAE Treatment Strategies Commission( 2004-2009) and as Chair, ILAE Non-Pharmacological treatment Sub-commission besides being Editorial advisory board member Epilepsia ( 2004-2009) and is currently Vice President Neurological Society Pune and awarded Ambassador for India by World congress of Controversies In Neurology(CONy) in Athens, Greece (2017) and Warsaw, Poland(2018).
Principal investigator for research and clinical trials for new drugs working on various and novel mechanisms , in epilepsy that have been subsequently approved for USFDA and available for changing the lives of persons with epilepsy such as Clobazam, Topiramate, Levitiracetam, Perampanel, Pregabalin, and Briveracatam - work has been published in prestigious Journals Neurology and Epilepsia.
“Yoga and ACT (Acceptance and Commitment, ashort course psychotherapy)studies” were conductedat his clinic and in South Africa in collaboration with Prof Dr Jo Anne Dahl and Prof. Dr Tobias Lundgren(submitted as PhD thesis),Uppsa University, Sweden - the research was published in Epilepsia and Epilepsy and Behaviour and are the few studies that have been approved by Cochrane database.
Honours and Awards: “Young Investigator travel award”three times for papers presented at International Epilepsy Congress in Norway (1993),Australia( 1995) and Thailand( 2004). Selected as best poster award at International Epilepsy Congress , Buenos Aries, Argentina in 2001-“ Low cost pre evaluation for epilepsy surgery in developing countries” and in Thailand( 2004) and Xiamen china (2008)
Received the ILAE Education commission Education award by open competition globally in 1995 for a project completed for ‘Epilepsy Education in Western Maharashtra’.
